Notes
Mastering Notes
-- Various drop outs patched with SBD (shnid=9392).
-- Various drop outs patched to mono.
-- d2t0{6,7} - Transition between "Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad" and "One More Saturday Night" patched with SBD (shnid=9392).
Notes
-- d2t04 - "King Solomon's Marbles" as listed is based on the sub-track titles from the CD version of "Blues For Allah", but just tracked here as one song. Title listings of this instrumental found on both commercial releases and legally traded sources are, to say the least, inconsistent. Whatever the case, we reckoned it was paramount to continue the tradition of inconsistency.
Taper Talk
-- According to Bob Menke, "It was an overcast day and we got there early. About 8:30 in the morning. That is how we ended up about 10-15 feet from the stage. The mics were mounted on broom sticks (handheld) and they were split about 20 feet apart. The upfront vocals I believe are the product of a small (relative to PA speakers) speaker on the floor of the stage next to the right PA column. The vocals seem to be blasting from that speaker. Another very intersting point is the fact that the Jefferson Starship opened and their sound from the same PA absolutely sucked. Nothing approaching the clarity and sound quality the Dead got from the same system."

Subject: endless
I don't think the dead knew one bit from what they were doing. how could they? charged with playing on the spot for virtual pirates, aimlessly wandering from show to show around California, up the East coast, around the midwest and back toward the Pacific shore. I just wonder -- why do we care so much for a band that was clueless toward even their own mysticism? did they know something we don't? About, why they were charged with the lessons of serving like stewards of the psychedelic experience...while we sat on the grasses sniffing daisy...
I'm not going to pretend to listen to what everyone else says, instead I think I am to find what really moves me...like this show, and maybe one other that I care to mention behind September 28, 1975 - which is unfortunately, May 8th 1977. It stands in some mystic way apart from every other date people care to mention. But, falls short because once again - we weren't really there...I'm actually not sure if anyone was, but we have some evidence, like tapes from Jerry Moore. And this one by the MOTB crew (god bless their souls).
This post is a very long winded way of saying that I am pretty grateful and lucky and privileged to be able to spend the time wondering. So much so, that even though I have listened to far more than anyone should, I still have something to say about the music. Something reasonable, not like my other comrades posting hearsay about the minutia which separates virtually identical shows...
with my little corner of infinity, I'm going to listen to this show and then possibly listen some more to Barton Hall, maybe May 7th or 9th, but surely not much more. It's too much to continually beg the question to MSYELF and no one else about the happenstance one show might have over another. Because, the conversation is redundant to those who weren't there to realize in the beauty of the Wall of Sound, or remark diffidently at Jerry Garcia Band shows. It just -- isn't the same.
I think I'm looking at it all wrong, or I have been up until now. You know, we have the power (infinite guidance) over how each moment is spent...shouldn't we choose to utilize our power to change things as best we can? Or become versed in our chosen path, and guide those willing toward some salvation? I don't know, I'm here just as you are...to chase something endless is to catch our tails...
